Driving Directions

Baltimore and points north :

  • Take I-95 south to I-495 and merge onto I-495 west (direction Northern Virginia)
  • Take the first exit, New Hampshire Avenue (Exit 28), in the direction of Takoma Park (Rte. 650 south).
  • Turn left onto Adelphi Road (2nd signal light).
  • Turn left onto Route 193 East (3rd signal light, University Boulevard).
  • The Conference Center is on the right, and the entrance to the parking garage is on the immediate right. Conference attendees do not pay for parking. Check with staff for details when you register.

Virgina and points west :

  • Take I-66 east or I-270 south to the Capital Beltway (I-495) and head east toward College Park.
  • Exit at New Hampshire Avenue (Exit 28), in the direction of Takoma Park (Rte. 650 south).
  • Turn left onto Adelphi Road (2nd signal light).
  • Turn left onto Route 193 East (3rd signal light, University Boulevard).
  • The Conference Center is on the right, and the entrance to the parking garage is on the immediate right. Conference attendees do not pay for parking. See note (below) about parking.

Annapolis and points east :

  • Take US 50 west to the Capital Beltway (I-495) and head north and west toward College Park.
  • Exit at New Hampshire Avenue (Exit 28), in the direction of Takoma Park (Rte. 650 south).

  • Turn left onto Route 193 East (3rd signal light, University Boulevard).

Airports & Ground Transportation

If you are traveling by air, there are three airports in the Washington, DC regional area that you can easily travel through: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI); Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA); and Dulles International (IAD).

Dulles is the furthest away; BWI is closer and easier to get to from the campus area; National is very convenient (Metro stop right at the airport) but flights are more limited in number and frequency and you will need to get a cab from the metro to the hotel.

BALTIMORE WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL (BWI)
Taxi approximately $70.

Driving Directions (see map) :

  • Take Route 295 South (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) to the Capital Beltway west (Route I-495).
  • Travel west on I-495 and exit at New Hampshire Avenue in the direction of Takoma Park (Exit 28, Rte. 650 South).
  • Turn left onto Adelphi Road (2nd signal light).
  • Turn left onto Route 193 East (3rd signal light, University Boulevard).
  • The Conference Center is on the right, and the entrance to the parking garage is on the immediate right.

RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT (DCA)
Taxi approximately $40.

Driving Directions (see map) :

  • Exit the Airport heading north and merge onto George Washington Memorial Pkwy N.
  • Merge onto I-395 N toward Washignton.
  • Turn right onto New York Avenue/Rt. 50 East
  • Take I-295 north toward Baltimore. I-295 becomes the Baltimore-Washington Pkwy (MD Route 295).
  • Exit onto Riverdale Road west toward Hyattsville. Riverdale Road becomes East-West Highway (MD Route 410).
  • Turn right onto Adelphi Road. At fourth light, turn right onto University Boulevard (MD Route 193) and take first right into UMUC headquarters.
  • The Conference Center is on the right, and the entrance to the parking garage is on the immediate right.

DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (IAD)
Taxi approximately $90.

Driving Directions (see map) :

  • Follow the signs for the Capital Beltway North (Route I-495).
  • Exit at New Hampshire Avenue South in the direction of Takoma Park (Exit 28, Route 650 South).
  • Turn left onto Adelphi Road (2nd signal light).
  • Turn left onto Route 193 East (3rd signal light, University Boulevard).
  • The Conference Center is on the right, and the entrance to the parking garage is on the immediate right.

Shuttle service between area airports and the Inn and Conference Center is provided by:

Shuttles listed serve BWI, National, and Dulles airports. The Inn and Conference Center is not affiliated with any of the shuttle services. Please call the services to make reservations and to determine actual costs.

Metro (Subway) 202-637-7000

There are connections to the Washington DC Metro from each of the airports

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Website

From National Airport (DCA)
Exit aiport following signs for National Airport Metro Station. Board the Yellow Line train in the direction of either Fort Totten or Mount Vernon Square station. When you arrive at L’Enfant Plaza station, exit the train but stay on the same platform and wait for a Green Line train on the same line in the direction of Greenbelt. Board the train and exit at the College Park station. A one-way metro trip will run $2.75 off-peak/$4.90 peak. A University of Maryland shuttle bus provides free service right to Stamp Union. For the hotel you are best using a taxi.

From Baltimore Washington International (BWI)
Metro provides transportation via the BWI Express Metro Bus (B30). Exit BWI to Ground Transportation and look for one of two bus stops running from the airport to Greenbelt Metro Station. At Greenbelt, take the Green Line in the direction of Branch Avenue to the College Park metro station (only one stop). The bus will cost $6.00 exact change one-way plus $1.60 off-peak/$2.15 peak for the metro. A University of Maryland shuttle bus provides free service right to Stamp Union. For the hotel you are best using a taxi.

From Dulles International (IAD)
Both the Washington Flyer and Metro offer buses to nearby Metro subway stops.

Metro runs a bus (5A) directly to the L’Enfant Plaza station. From there, board a Green Line train to Greenbelt and exit at College Park station. The bus will cost $6.00 (exact change needed), and the metro will run $2.15 off-peak/$4.00 peak. A University of Maryland shuttle bus provides free service right to Stamp Union. For the hotel you are best using a taxi.

Washington Flyer also runs a bus to the West Falls Church station every 20 to 30 minutes. From there take the Orange Line in the direction of New Carrollton. Exit at L’Enfant Plaza and board a Green Line train in the direction of Greenbelt. (Upstairs - pay attention to the signage.) Take the train to the College Park station. This bus will cost $10 one-way or $18 round-trip, and the metro runs $2.75 off-peak/$5.20 peak. A University of Maryland shuttle bus provides free service right to Stamp Union. For the hotel you are best using a taxi.

From other points in the Washington DC area :

  • Take your best route to the Green Line in the direction of Greenbelt.
  • Exit at the College Park metro station.

  • Take Amtrak to Union Station
  • Switch to Metro Red Line toward Glenmont
  • Transfer to the Green Line at Fort Totten (descend to the lower level)
  • Take the Green Line toward Greenbelt
  • Exit at the College Park metro station
  • The metro runs $2.15 off-peak/$3.60 peak
