Seed Grant Program

The Seed Grant Program is a crucial mechanism by which we foster population-related research

About the Program

The Seed Grant Program at Maryland has five goals for the development of faculty research:

  1. to facilitate the development of strong individual research proposals, especially NIH and NSF applications
  2. to support junior faculty in proposal development
  3. to encourage faculty in allied fields or faculty who have not previously sought funding from NIH to develop grant proposals
  4. to encourage grant development that involves faculty from more than one discipline
  5. to support high-risk / high-return projects or projects where time-sensitive funding is needed, and
  6. to support research related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Program Guidelines

The current Seed Grant Proposal Guidelines are available by reviewing the RFP, which is also available for download.

COVID-19 Seed Grant Call

We are pleased to announce that in addition to our annual Call for Proposals for the MPRC Seed Grant program, MPRC is now seeking proposals for Seed Grant funding for projects directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These proposals will be evaluated on an ongoing basis with an expedited turn-around time for reviews, about 2-3 weeks. All of the standard criteria for population related research (see attached call for proposals) will be used to evaluate COVID-19-related proposals.

Program Guidelines

The COVID-19 Seed Grant Proposal Guidelines are available by reviewing the special RFP, which is also available for download. (While similar to the standard Seed Grant guidelines there are significant differences.)
