Melissa Kearney outlines child poverty response

Plan could virtually end child poverty

A story by Elizabeth Ross on The World radio program examines a "thought experiment" by Faculty Associate Melissa Kearney that would provide needy children with the equivalent of the average social security benefit. The program could be viewed as a "social investment," Dr. Kearney said, that would more than pay for itself in the long run because the children lifted out of poverty would be much more likely to get good jobs as adults and contribute to society with their taxes, instead of needing expensive entitlement programs.
