Thurka Sangaramoorthy featured in The Baltimore Sun on Maryland Crab Workers during COVID-19
Jeff Barker and Thalia Juarez, both correspondents writing for The Baltimore Sun, just published a story addressing the crucial condition for Maryland crab workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Barker and Juarez, filled mainly with female workers and foreign labor, the Maryland crab picking business is indeed experiencing a hard time struggling with both keeping up the business and keeping the staff safe. Faculty Associate Thurka Sangaramoorthy told the authors, "the women are often caught between a rock and a hard place. They need to be able to produce and meet the quotas to be able to come back.''
