Marian Moser Jones featured in FiveThirtyEight on how COVID-19 can affect political campaigns in U.S.

Presidential campaign may be severely affected with the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the public life in different ways, but history shows U.S. can manage the election during rough times

Geoffrey Skelley, an election analyst at FiveThirtyEight recently published an article on how the recent disease outbreak of COVID-19 might affect U.S. 2020 presidential campaign. But the good news is, we have managed to vote during rough times on history, for example in 1918 when U.S. was experiencing both World World I and the Spanish Flu at the same time.

Skelley quoted from Faculty Associate Marian Moser Jones as why political campaign might be hit severely, "You couldn’t have the usual election speeches, which were then even more important because you didn’t have television or radio,” Jones said. “[Candidates] had to actually campaign via newspaper editorials and mailings."
