About the Presentation for the Fall 2020 MPRC Online Seminar Series
Currently, Brazil has the second-highest COVID-19 case and death tolls worldwide. The seminar will discuss mortality patterns, risk factors, geographical distribution, temporal trends, and reflect on the role of COVID-19 on excess deaths over time.
About the Speaker
Marcia Castro is Andelot Professor of Demography, and chair of the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, and co-director of the Brazil Studies Program of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS). Her research focuses on the development and use of multidisciplinary approaches to identify the determinants of infectious disease transmission to inform control policies. She has projects on malaria, COVDI-19, dengue, Zika virus, chikungunya, tuberculosis, congenital syphilis, and infant/child mortality and development. She earned her PhD in Demography from Princeton University.
