This is the first of the John B. Slaughter Lecture Series sponsored by the African American Studies department.
Although the Ava Duvernay dramatic film series "When They See US" focused on the exonerated 5 there were other black and brown teens rounded up and arrested that night. One of the "wilding boys of Central Park" is Steve Lopez. Mr. Lopez will be joining Dr. Jack Monell who grew up in the projects in Brooklyn and was a member of the infamous Decepticons gang. He was incarcerated at 15 and has a unique perspective of having been on both sides of the justice system. Rounding out our featured panelists is The Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr., retired Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and Executive Director Judge Alexander Williams Center for Education, Justice & Ethics.
