Susan Parker discusses the implementation of successful policies that reduced poverty in Oaxaca, Mexico

The MPRC Associate Director was invited to share her expertise in the evaluation of public policies with the Wilson Center's Mexico Institute

Oaxaca, one of Mexico's southern states, has made notable advances in reducing poverty and extreme poverty to its lowest levels since 2008 and ranks first in the country in increasing access to basic household utilities.

On September 22nd, 2022, Susan Parker, Executive Director of CONEVAL, Dr. Nabor Cruz Marcelo, and Governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat, gathered to discuss the policies that contributed to this substantial reduction in poverty.

In her presentation, Parker reviews these advances and points to additional evaluation strategies that can aid in identifying specific program components that had the strongest impact on poverty reduction.
