Rashawn Ray comments on police-community relations

Fox 5 Washington D.C. program examines (non)use of cameras in Prince Georges County

Evan Lambert, a reporter for Fox 5 Washington D.C. covering locals news from DMV area, recently published a story on the new pressure on wearing body cameras among Maryland's Prince George County police officers, when research found out 95% of the PGPD are not wearing a body camera.

Faculty Associate Rashawn Ray, an Associate Professor from UMD Sociology department, regretfully comments that push for PGPD body cameras program is already too late when actions should be taken at least 5 years ago, especially when most residents and officers supported this. "Residents in this county desire it. Police officers desire it and when a lot of money has been allocated for it it’s up to our community leaders to make this happen," Ray added.
