Julia Steinberg featured in Reuters on women’s mental health following an abortion

No evidence found on women’s negative emotions following an abortion

Lisa Rapoport, reporter for Reuters Health, published an article on how women rarely feel regretful, sad, or angry after getting their abortions done.

Faculty associate Julia Steinberg’s recent new article “Decisions rightness and relief predominate over the years following an abortion” is featured in the article, where a survey study of 667 women who had abortions in 21 states a week after they had procedures was done once every six months for five years.

Results suggest one week after the abortion, 98% women felt they had made the right decisions, as did 99% of women five years later. “The results offer fresh evidence that concerns about women’s emotional health after an abortion shouldn’t factor into policies about legal access to these procedures,” said Steinberg in an email.
