Philip Cohen comments on declining divorce rate in Michigan in Lansing State Journal
Dropping divorce rate among women age under 45 in Michigan may indicate later but stabler marriage
Kristan Obeng, reporter for the Lansing State Journal, reports that divorce petition in Michigan is seeing a decline by 18% since 2003, where the decline is largely generated by women under the age 45.
Faculty Associate Philip Cohen told Obeng, "Younger people today are less likely to get married than they were before, and when they do, they marry later on average. They are also more likely to have higher education when they marry. These factors contribute to the falling divorce rate.”
