Melissa Kearney featured in The Hill on Yang's "Freedom Dividend"

Yang's Freedom Dividend is not likely to reduce social inequality seriously

James Jarvis, reporter for The Hill, writes that many advocates of universal basic income (UBI) are against Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang's "Freedom Dividend." The report quotes from a Brookings Institute paper published in August by Faculty Associate Melissa Kearney, where she argues "proposals like Yang’s would do very little to reduce inequality of advance opportunity and social mobility."

Melissa Kearney further argues that devoting more resources to increasing the income and living standards of those in the bottom of the income distribution are more practical actions against social inequality and poverty.
