Katharine Abraham comments on gig workers in The New York Times

Rapid rise of gig workers not necessarily change the traditional labor market and economy

Neil Irwin an economist correspondent writing for The Upshot in The New York Times, reports that although rising numbers of gig workers are bringing challenges for government regulations and for the traditional employment labor market, and ''has been transformative in transportation and a few other industries, it seems not particularly applicable in many jobs, such as those requiring collaboration or specialized training.''

Faculty Associate Katharine Abraham agrees, stating that more people joining the gig economy labor market to supplement their current normal jobs does not imply a fundamental change in the way people’s jobs are organized.
