MacDorman research a noted advance for 2016
In August 2016 Faculty Associate Marian MacDorman and colleagues published an article in Obstetrics and Gynecology that reconsidered the way in which maternal mortality was calculated (or not calculated) across the United States. "Earlier this year, NICHD-funded researchers estimated that the maternal mortality rate in 48 U.S. states and Washington, DC, had increased by more than 26 percent, from approximately 19 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2000 to nearly 24 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2014," wrote NICHD Director Diane Bianchi in a mid-December resume of the year's accomplishments.
