Cross-jurisdiction collaboration among HIV Prevention Organizations

Health Behavior and Policy Review, 5(4):12-21.

Our objective was to identify HIV prevention services organization (HPO) perceived benefits and barriers to collaboration with other HPOs. Methods: Leaders of 26 HPOs completed an interviewer-assisted survey. Results: HPOs (≥ 50%) agreed that the benefits of collaborations include service improvement, potential for funding, and efficiency. HPOs (≥ 50%) also agreed that lack of follow-up, staffing and resources inhibit collaboration. Cross-jurisdiction grant-writing efficacy correlated negatively with perceived barriers to cross-jurisdictional collaboration (r = -.642, < .01). Conclusions: Having more perceived barriers was correlated with less collaborative grant-writing efficacy suggesting that HPO leaders’ perceptions of barriers may impede cross-jurisdictional collaborative efforts and should be a focus of technical assistance.
