Making Restricted-Use National Crime Victimization Survey Data Available for Population Research

Brian Wiersema, Criminology and Criminal Justice

Support for proposal development to assist in efforts to make restricted-use National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data available to population researchers and others interested in linking victimization data with Census information on the places where NCVS respondents reside. While such data were available for a brief period of time to qualified researchers in regional Census Research Data Centers, access has since been suspended owing to concerns over data documentation, format standardization and security.  The focus of this seed grant proposal addresses one of the Maryland Population Research Center’s core missions: to develop restricted-use data for population research.
