In-Migration to the South – in Black and White
The project examines one important aspect of internal migration in the United States; more specifically, the fairly recent reversal of the twentieth century exodus of people from the South and the increasing flow of people to the South. In all phases of this project, the study employs a comparative approach emphasizing blacks and non-blacks. Ultimately, using the seed grant the project seeks to better understand not only the origins and destinations of migrants but also their motivations. As a first step this study restricts itself to existing data to address origins and destinations.
