Madhavan paper featured on Power Talk podcast

MPRC Alumni Tyler Myroniuk interviewed

MPRC alumnus Tyler Myroniuk is interviewed on the Power Talk podcast with Lerato Mbele on February 8, 2023. He talks about the paper he co-wrote with MPRC Associate Sangeetha Madhavan and Michael White (Brown) examining health outcomes for Black South Africans after moving away from home. According to the study, the further away from home the migrants moved, the higher the levels of emotional well-being they self-reported after the move compared to before the move, the podcaster noted.

"We investigate changes in the emotional well-being of 2281 working-age Black South Africans after migration, drawing on four waves of data, from 2008 to 2015, from the nationally representative National Income Dynamics Study. Fixed-effects regressions show that migrants exhibit changes in life satisfaction as well as proclivity towards depression but that these outcomes vary by distance of move and type of move - moving within or between provinces," the authors write.
