Rashawn Ray comments on participation in George Floyd protests
Stetson Miller, writing at WJZ Channel 13 in Baltimore, reported on the research of Faculty Associate Rashawn Ray and his colleague Dana Fisher indicating what could be shift in support for police reform. Looking at the racial makeup of protesters in New York, Washington, an Los Angeles, the Sociology researchers noted that crowds included 50 to 60 percent white people. Dr. Ray cited recent polling that found Americans see the killing of George Floyd as more than an isolated incident.
“Regardless of people’s political orientation, Ray said, "they do not want to see it be a part of America that they imagined for themselves and their kids.”
