Tough consequences for misconducts among scholars

Marc Parry reporting for the Chronicle of Higher Education, accounts the #MeToo moment that sociology is going through. A star scholar at State University of New York at Stony Brook was accused of sexually harassing former students. Power seems to play an important role, as people in puissant positions deploy harassment to maintain their dominance. In the midst of how to respond to sexual misbehaviors in the field, several sociologists are demanding strong consequences such as barring those scholars who were caught in sexual misconduct from meetings of the American Psychological Association (APA). Faculty Associate Philip Cohen, tweeted for 15,000 followers; “Make a rule against sexual harassment. Make sure everybody knows what the rule is. Then fire people who break the rule. Watch and learn."
