Nature and Health Spring Talk: Dr. Jennifer D. Roberts
Assistant Professor Jennifer Roberts will be a presenter for the University of Washington's Nature and Health Spring Talk series. Her discussion topic is “The Health of the Country Depends Upon the Health of Negroes”: Nature of Pandemics and Protests in the 20th and 21st Centuries, which will explore historical and contemporary inequities stemming from structural racism within the United States through an examination of the influenza and COVID-19 pandemics, as well as the uprisings, riots and protests throughout these pandemic periods. Additionally, Roberts will talk about nature with respect to access inequity, race and class-based privilege, environmental racism and other issues that continue to impact communities of color.
