Guest Speaker:
Craig Pollack, MD, MHS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is a practicing internist whose research focuses on social determinants of health, with an emphasis on housing policy.
Summary:
While housing mobility has been shown to impact a range of economic outcomes, its impact on health and health care has remained less clear. This talk will describe two on-going projects. The first is a study of children with asthma in Baltimore, examining how moving through Baltimore’s mobility program is linked with changes in home exposures. For the second project, through a research partnership with US Department of Housing and Urban Development, we linked data on participants in Moving To Opportunity (MTO) to data from three state all-payer hospital discharge datasets and Medicaid data from four states. We are investigating whether study arm and neighborhood poverty are linked with long term health care use and spending.
