Summary: This year’s symposium theme is “Racism: In Sickness and In Health” focusing on how race and racism shape health outcomes. The symposium will also explore strategies from health activists that the University of Maryland can use to address health outcomes for students and the minority communities in the DC-Baltimore corridor. The first panel, “Health Outcomes: For Better or For Worse" begins at 11:00 am and features researchers and scholars, who will discuss racial health disparities. The second panel, “Health Strategies: From this Day Forward,” begins at 2:00 pm and features scholars, practitioner, and health activists, who will discuss actions to address racial health disparities.
MPRC Faculty Associates Dr. Thurka Sangaramoorthy, Dr. Joseph Richardson, and Dr. David Chae will be featured panel speakers.
The Symposium, sponsored by the Department of Sociology, will be held in the Colony Ballroom and the Reception will be held in the Prince George's room of the Stamp Stamp Student Union.
