About the Topic
China’s family planning policy is known as the most drastic family planning effort in the world. The talk has three goals: 1) to provide a broad overview of China’s family planning policy from 1970 to 2012; 2) to introduce the newly installed “two-children policy” and its background; 3) to forecast future policy trends. The speaker will cover her research on fertility intention of Chinese women since 2002. She will conclude the talk by discussing unintended consequences of China’s family planning policy.
About the Speaker
Dr. Xiaohong Ma is a visiting scholar at MPRC from Beijing, China. She is an Associate Professor of Sociology, from the Beijing Administrative College and Beijing Population Research Institute. Dr Ma's research focuses on fertility Intentions and behavior and population policy. Her publications include two recent books, Fertility IntentionResearch on Beijing Population in the Background of Low Fertility Level(2016) and Do You Want to Have Second Child? -Fertility Desires, Fertility Behavior and Fertility Level (2014)She also has published more than fifty journals articles and international conference papers.
