About the Speaker
Duncan Thomas is the Norb F. Schaefer Professor of International Studies in the Economics Department at Duke University. He investigates the inter-relationships between health, human capital and socio-economic status across the globe. He has conducted fieldwork in Indonesia and Mexico. On-going research examines the impact of a large-scale, unanticipated natural disaster on population health and well-being as well as economic and demographic behaviors of individuals, families and communities. Thomas directs the Development Economics program at the NBER.
