About the Talk
Drawing on results from the latest census in 2010, this talk intends to provide an overview of China's demographic transformation in historical perspective in terms of fertility trends, fertility policy, population structure, elderly support, sex ratio at birth, and labor supply, as well as future demographic challenges to the Chinese society.
About the Speaker
Professor Gu holds adjunct professor positions in Peking University, East China Normal University, Fuzhou University, and Kunming Medical College. He is also a member of the Specialist Panel on Social Science and Operations Research in Sexual and Reproductive Health of the World Health Organization (WHO), a member of the Editorial Advisory Committee for the journal of International Perspective on Sexual and Reproductive Health (IPSRH, formerly International Family Planning Perspective, IFPP), and a member of the International Advisory Board for the journal of Asia Population Studies, Singapore. He is a standing Council member of the China Population Association (CPA), and a member of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Asia Population Association (APA) and Population Association of America (PAA).
