Biography:

Dr. Hubacek received his Ph.D. in Ecological Economics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in 2000. Before coming to the University of Maryland, he held appointments at multiple institutions, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Leeds, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, and McDaniel College. Hubacek has conducted studies for a number of national agencies in Austria, China, Japan, and the UK, as well at international institutions, such as the European Statistical Office (EUROSTAT), the OECD, and UNESCO. Hubacek's ongoing research on emboddied carbon emissions in trade has appeared in media reports ranging from local news such as the Yorkshire Post and the Birmingham Post to national and international news outlets including ScienceNews, New Scientist, the German TV (WDR) and the BBC World Service.

Research Interests:

Hubacek's main interests involve the modelling and analysis of socio-ecological systems. Keywords in his research are futures research, scenario analysis and integrated modelling, as well as participatory resource management and governance and sustainable consumption and production.
