Kinship, Marriage and Child Health in Kenya: From the Perspective of Men
While the growth in scholarship on fathers and fathering over the past decade is welcome, much of what we know about what men do for their children comes from women and is still overwhelmingly from Western contexts. We are, therefore, left with an incomplete understanding of men’s roles in the care of their children and the extent to which fathers and male partners make a difference to child health and well-being outcomes. The seed grant funding for this study will extend the first wave of qualitative data collection to men in an ongoing mixed methods, longitudinal NICHD/PDB R01 funded project in Nairobi, Kenya. The goal is to use these findings combined with the survey data from the first two waves of the R01 project to submit a proposal to NICHD/PDB through an Administrative Supplement or Competing Revision mechanism to expand the survey to include men for the remaining waves of the R01 project.
