Six funding opportunities with deadlines from mid-August to late September

Emergency Early Independence Awards (DP5) –

supports exceptional junior investigators who wish to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree or post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. Up to 10 awards of up to $250,000 each annually for up to five years may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.

Applications are due Sept. 4.

Early Independence Awards (DP5) –

supports exceptional junior investigators who wish to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree or post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. Up to 10 awards with a combined total of up to $4 million may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.

Applications are due Sept. 4.

Emergency Transformative Research Awards (R01) –

supports individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish entirely new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. Multiple awards of negotiable amounts may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.

Applications are due Sept. 30.

New Innovator Award Program (DP2) –

supports early stage investigators of exceptional creativity who propose highly innovative research projects with the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important areas relevant to the mission of NIH. Up to 33 awards with a combined total of up to $80 million may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.

Applications are due Aug. 21.

Pioneer Award Program (DP1) –

supports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose highly innovative research projects with the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important areas relevant to the mission of NIH. Up to seven awards with a combined total of up to $8 million may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.

Applications are due Sept. 11.

supports individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish entirely new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. Up to seven awards with a combined total of up to $8 million may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically.
