Time Use as a Social Determinant of Health

April 8-9, 2025

Time is a health resource but critical gaps remain in understanding how time use is associated with health and well-being. The 2025 University of Maryland (UMD) Time Use Conference these is Time Use as a Social Determinant of Health. We welcome abstract submissions on (a) innovative data, measures, and analyses of daily time use and health and well-being disparities; (b) time use and sleep; and (c) sedentary and physically active leisure across the life course; (d) variations in time-related health behaviors among children, adolescents, and parents; and (e) associations of daily time use behaviors, energy expenditures, and obesity. We also encourage research on other dimensions of time use as a social determinant of health. The Conference will offer in-person and virtual attendance to provide a more inclusive venue for the interdisciplinary time use research community to interact and share ideas. Abstract submission is open to all individuals with an interest in using time use data to investigate daily life, health, and well-being. The deadline to submit an abstract is September 30, 2024. All authors will be notified by November 22, 2024.

Authors are asked to submit:

  • a brief abstract (150 words)
  • a four-page extended abstract that includes information about the research methods and expected findings. The extended abstract must be sufficiently detailed to allow the organizing committee to judge the merits of the proposed paper.

Abstracts may be submitted by email to: .
