Findings from the JAMO project highlighted in The Standard

New findings show that women in high quality relationships show the lowest signs of depression, regardless of marriage status

Reporting for The Standard, Maryann Muganda writes on findings from a study on the JAMO project, which finds that women in high-quality relationships, whether married or not, show the lowest signs of depression. She features comments from Faculty Associate Kenneth Leonard, who states that “relationship quality has a bigger effect on maternal mental health, reducing the probability that a woman is depressed, but union formalisation also helps.” Additionally, Faculty Associates Sangeetha Madhavan and Kirsten Stoebenau were highlighted, as their work on the JAMO project allowed them to investigate women’s lived experiences through qualitative interviews, allowing respondents to have transformative experiences due to having a space to reflect on their relationships.
