Nolan Pope’s study on the impacts of divorce featured in Newsweek

Pope’s study finds that children of divorce more likely to have reduced earnings, teen pregnancy, incarceration, and early death

A new study by Faculty Associate Nolan Pope was reported on by Jack Beresford from Newsweek. Pope’s study found that children whose parents divorce when they are five or younger are more likely to experience early death. Pope and his colleagues found that divorce is associated with income loss, neighborhood changes, and family restructuring, all of which could affect children’s outcomes. Pope mentions that “there are many additional dimensions of divorce–particularly the impact on the lives and happiness of the parents–that our study is unable to address, which are also important when making decisions about divorce.”
