Despite pandemic challenges, poverty in India declines

Wave 3 of the IHDS complete, showing a decrease in poverty

In The Economic Times, Faculty Associate Sonalde Desai's work on the India Human Development Survey (IHDS) is highlighted. The story notes that Wave 3 of the IHDS is completed, with interesting findings. From Dr. Desai's work, it highlights that poverty declined to 8.5% in 2022-2024, from 21.2% in 2011-2012, even with the challenges presented by the pandemic. 

Dr. Desai noted that "ensuring social protection systems keep up with the pace of social transformation will be a key challenge for India as it strives towards equitable development."
