Dow contributes to "Intensive Parenting" analysis
Racial and economic factors make parenting harder for some
Faculty Associate Dawn Dow was one of the four invited panelists on AirTalk, hosted on Southern California's KPCC radio station, for a session aired on January 2, 2019. Dow talked about the "intensive parenting" racial and economic factors that make it easier for some parents and harder for others. According to Dow, Black middle class mother faces different pressures and challenges than a white middle class mother. Black families bear along the pressure to protect their Black children from racism in their social contexts such as neighborhoods and schools.
