Haltiwanger advocates for entrepreneurship at IMF meeting
At a recent IMF Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C. Faculty Associate John Haltiwanger addressed slow innovation and strict regulation as possible causes for modest GDP growth in the U.S. in recent years. Dr. Haltiwanger suggested that economic growth in the U.S. is closely tied to support for young entrepreneurs, and must be encouraged with policies that make it easier for new businesses to survive against existing competition in the market. Specifically, Dr. Haltiwanger proposed that the U.S. government "change the Small Business Administration to the Young Business Administration" and make it a Cabinet-level position.
