About the Presentation

This study examines the residential situations of the formerly incarcerated over the first three years after release from prison and asks whether the characteristics of housemates, such as prior conviction status, and the nature of the relationship with the focal individual, are associated with criminal reconviction. We draw upon the richness of Danish population register data, which contain information on all individuals released from prison between 1991 and 2014 as well as their locations of residence before and after prison, indicators of who they resided with at each location, and whether these housemates had criminal records. With these data, we estimate Cox proportional hazards models to assess time to reconviction among the formerly incarcerated.
