CRGE is pleased to invite you to our national seminar entitled Representation Matters: Addressing the Latinx Leadership Crisis in Higher Education to be presented by Professor Michelle Espino, University of Maryland, College of Education. The event will be  held Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm via Zoom. We expect to have two discussants: Marie Mora, Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. University of Missouri – St. Louis and Deborah Santiago, CEO, Excelencia. Please see flyer with zoom information to join us.

The goal of the seminar is to have a conversation on the increasing shifting demographics in higher education, colleges and universities, and the preparation required  to engage in equitable practices that foster persistence and success for all groups, but most critically, Latinx/a/o student, faculty, and administrators. This presentation seeks to highlight major national and local issues that disproportionately hinder access to senior leadership roles for traditionally and historically underrepresented faculty and administrators. We plan to invite a national audience that will include scholars,  researchers, practitioners, community members, policy makers and students.

The intent is to engage in a difficult conversation on how to address Latino/a/x social inequalities and inequity in higher education: who is being included, who is being left out of the higher education opportunity structure and who is missing from the leadership landscape and who is in those leadership roles. The format will be 45 minutes for a presentation, 15 minutes each discussant and 30 minutes for Q&A.

We would like to have a national audience who can contribute to these important issues and provide a clear agenda for future work and social justice actions. Please distribute widely

Please feel free to send us reports, articles and books that you feel address these issues and we can develop an archive for the attendees to share and to place on our website www.crge.umd.edu.
