Report from the event

In our second Journal Club meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Kerry Green discussed her involvement with the Woodlawn study and shared with us her experience of using this community cohort to study health and wellbeing. In particular, she spoke about the history of Woodlawn cohort, how and why this cohort was chosen to be studied, how she became involved with the Woodlawn study, funding and IRB, methods of data collection, the specific demographic of the cohort and the type of information collected, variables measured, statistical methods used to analyze such data, policy implications of studying this cohort and some of the benefits and shortcomings of using this cohort to study social determinants of health. Dr. Green, then, answered questions from student attendees and offered her assistant to those interested in becoming involved in the Woodlawn study. The discussion was vibrant, interesting and very informative!!

This was the last meeting of the semester. Our Journal Club meetings will resume next semester. So please stay tuned and make time to get involved. You won't regret it!!
