About the Talk

Incarceration has risen rapidly in the US, but it has not done so evenly between states. This presentation will explore the effects of incarceration on the spread of infectious disease over time. Particular focus will be given to evaluating competing influences, including the idea that prisons foster the spread of infectious disease versus the idea that prisons provide healthcare to an underserved community. A framework for understanding the institutional effects of incarceration on health will be discussed.
