Information

Penn State’s 7th annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography will be held on the University Park campus on November 12. Dr. Emilio Parrado (University of Pennsylvania) will present, “The social process of Mexican women's migration to the US: An intersectionality approach.” In spite of the fact that women compose over forty-six percent of the Mexican immigrant population, research on the social process of Mexican migration to the US remains dominated by the male experience. Building on intersectionality theory, Parrado and his co-author, Dr. Chenoa Flippen, elaborate on how gender, family, and migration dynamics intersect to produce divergent processes of Mexican migration to the US for men and women. Discussants include Dr. Katherine Donato, Vanderbilt University, and Dr. Jennifer Van Hook, Pennsylvania State University.
