Shawn Bushway
is an Assistant Professor in the University of Maryland
Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. He received his Ph.D. in
Public Policy and Economics in 1996 from Carnegie Mellon University. He
has written articles on the stigmatic impact of arrest on employment,
crime prevention programs that focus on employment and employment
training, and the relationship between adolescent work and crime. He
has also written articles on identifying change in offending over time,
in particular focusing on the developmental process of desistance from
crime. The focus on the school to work transition sets the stage for a
larger discussion of the role of work in the process of desistance.
