MPRC researchers must complete several important "tasks" while writing and
submitting a grant through the Center. In order to better support our researchers, MPRC has divided these tasks into
two main categories -- BEFORE submitting a grant and AFTER submitting a grant. Click on the items listed in each
category below to find out what MPRC has on file for you, what you need to do and how to get it done.
For additional help, please contact
Barbara Hillinger, the Center Program Coordinator. Also,
please note that MPRC has some important timetable
guidelines to ensure that we have enough time to assist you prior to the proposal submission deadline. Additional
information about the services and support MPRC's Administrative Staff can provide is available on MPRC's
Research Administration page.
MPRC has dedicated a large amount of financial resources and energy to helping our younger faculty develop
research programs and compete successfully for external funding, especially at Eunice Kennedy Shriver NICHD. We have targeted the R03
mechanism because most of our faculty had never applied to NIH for funding and many had projects well suited to
this mechanism. Our method of aiding faculty is organized, systematic, and rigorous. The workshop meets every
week and typically has four or five young scholars working on new projects. Participating scholars have access to
a secure online file sharing and discussion forum that can be used to collaborate on proposal drafts and more. Please
note: these workshop are ONLY available to registered MPRC Faculty Associates and Affiliates.
Please check here often for the most current workshop schedule.

Biosketches are needed for all grant proposals to NIH. For most MPRC researchers, the Center has your most recent NIH
biosketch on file. To access this latest version, visit the Faculty Area of the website and input your UMD Directory ID and Password. Click on the appropriate
link to find your name and to download the biosketch we have on file for you. You may update your Biosketch directly in this
document and then forward it to William Fennie for filing and posting.
Please remember that a biosketch is needed for each researcher listed on your proposal. Each biosketch should NOT EXCEED
four pages and should be typed in size 11 Arial font. Be sure to follow the additional instructions included on the Biosketch
Template pages.
If you do not have a biosketch or can not access your biosketch, please use the sample and templates below to complete this
task:

The Other Support Document is needed for when the grant is to be awarded so that Center
Administrative Staff can fill out the Just In Time information for your grant award.

If your research project uses human subjects, you MUST get approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The IRB is a committee within a university or other organization receiving federal funds to conduct research that
reviews research proposals using human subjects. The IRB reviews and approves an IRB application proposal before
funding can be accepted by the university. The IRB has the authority to approve, disapprove, or require modifications of
the research plan to ensure that the research follows the ethical principles and federal regulations for the protection of
human subjects. Use the appropriate form below to complete this task:
For help with writing a new IRB application or completing the renewal application, please contact
Barbara Hillinger. She will walk you through the process to
ensure the forms are filled out correctly.

Beginning in April 2008 NIH requires that a copy of any peer-reviewed article based on research funded by NIH must be filed with the PubMed Central electronic database. MPRC will make arrangements to file your papers with PubMed Central. Contact William Fennie for more information.
