Statistical Software Training
The Computing Core offers training in SAS and Stata. Each semester, and during the summer, we offer intense four week training classes in SAS and Stata. Increasingly, faculty and graduate students demand higher level training on specific computational issues. As a result, the Computing Core plans to expand its course offerings to more advanced topics, including Computing Models with Correlated Error Structures using AML, Calculating Standard Errors for Models with Complicated Error Structures using Stata, Using ERISA products for Geographic Analysis and Data Construction, and Parallel and Distributed Computing using Matlab and Intel Math Kernel Libraries.
About the Training
The MPRC Computing Core offers multiple-week, non-credit SAS and Stata training courses per semester. The classes are intended for graduate students studying in MPRC-affiliated departments, and course exercises focus on SAS and Stata programming using data sets used in population research.
Who Can Attend?
Courses are open and free to MPRC students and faculty.
You MUST be either an affiliated MPRC student or faculty member to participate. Priority is given to graduate students who are working with MPRC faculty associates. PRE-REGISTER is required if you wish to attend.
2009 Fall Courses:
MPRC will offer a non-credit and no-fee introductory SAS 9 and intermediate Stata 10 training courses this semester. Class space is limit. YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER if you wish to attend. Please go to here to reserve your spot.
1. Introduction to SAS 9:
This course is designed for people who are just getting started using SAS 9. The course introduces basic user interface techniques for using SAS 9 to accomplish data processing tasks. The students in the class will have some hands-on experience using SAS 9 for data manipulation and data analysis. The class notes are printed and given to the students in the class. No prior programming knowledge is required.
Covered topics include:
- The components of Base SAS, SAS Windows Manager System, the methods of input raw data into SAS, SAS format and informat, error debugging and SAS file management.
- Data manipulation (controlling rows and columns), system Options, IF statements, WHERE statement, array and DO loops. SAS functions.
- Sorting, rotating, merging data and analyzing data (TTEST, ANOVA, logistic and regression).
The SAS Training Courses are scheduled on: Fridays, October 9, 16 and 23 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm
2. Intermediate Stata 10:
This course is designed for people who already have known some Stata. The course introduces Stata programming, macros and loops. The students in the class will have some hands-on experience using Stata 10 to write their own simple programs or ado files(commands).
Covered topics include:
- Stata macro and loops
- Stata programming
The Stata Training Course is scheduled on: Tuesdays October 13 and 20 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm
2009 Fall Workshop:
MPRC will office a workshop of “Multiple Imputation for Survey Data Analysis” in Fall 2009. The workshop will demonstrate and discuss how to use the procedures MI, MIanalysis and Surveylogistic in SAS to perform analyses with three logit models using a complex survey data.
The students in the class will have some hands-on experience using SAS for multiple imputation with a survey data.
The workshop is open and free to MPRC students and faculty only. No REGISTER is required.
The workshop is scheduled on: Friday, November 13 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm
**All courses will be held in Room 0124D(Computer Lab.), the Cole Student Activities Building (#162) **
