Resources
Listed below are some of the many resources the MPRC makes available to faculty and student researchers.
Working Groups
MPRC uses Working Groups to motivate research and to stimulate cross-discipline interaction. . . .
NIH-PubMed Central Compliance
The MPRC Information Core supports faculty by insuring that any articles accepted for publication by peer-reviewed journals are uploaded to the PubMed Central database.
Mentored Grantwriting Workshop
Support for Faculty Associates who are preparing to propose funded research.
Population Working Papers
This project, initiated with the California Center for Population Research at UCLA, allows researchers from a number of institutions to list their working papers in a single place. A listing of MPRC working papers can be found by following the link below.
Journal Submission Guidelines
MPRC realizes the important role publishing plays in the academic lives of our researchers. In order to help them, MPRC maintains this collection of useful links to the submission guidelines of many population-related journals.
Statistical Research Support
MPRC offers strong support for statistical research, including server space, a dedicated facility for confidential dataset usage, and a robust training program for students and faculty.
SodaPOP Data Extraction Tool
A productive partnership with the Population Research Institute (PRI) at Penn State University provides easy access to SAS data sets online.
Seed Grant Program
The Seed Grant Program is a crucial mechanism by which we foster population-related research.
Demography Certificate
The MPRC Training Program in population studies provides solid interdisciplinary training in demographic methods, theory and research for graduate students in departments affiliated with the Maryland Population Research Center, culminating in a Certificate in Population Studies for graduate students who complete the required coursework. The Training Program offers a limited number of Traineeships each year to highly-qualified graduate students from participating departments. Trainees will be selected by the MPRC Executive Committee from among current and incoming Ph.D. students who have expressed an interest in population studies. It is expected that all Trainees will complete the coursework necessary to receive the Certificate in Population Studies; however, graduate students are not required to be trainees in order to earn the certificate.
