Cabrera joins the National Research Center on Hispanic Children and Families

New research hub aims to improve policies and programs that serve Hispanic children and families

MPRC Faculty Associate Natasha Cabrera has taken on an exciting role at the newly established National Research Center on Hispanic Children and Families. The Center is staffed by a strong team of national experts in Hispanic issues and is a hub of research to improve the lives of Hispanics across three priority areas: poverty reduction and self-sufficiency, healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood, and early care and education.

Dr. Cabrera’s work at the center will focus on healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood. In the first year, she and her colleagues will develop fact sheets and research briefs to provide an in-depth demographic portrait of Hispanic families. They will also review Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood programs to identify promising practices, and will analyze qualitative data to learn more about family processes among low-income Latino first-time unmarried parents. Their work will help inform policy and programs to better serve the needs of Hispanic children and families.

Cabrera’s research, which has been published extensively, focuses on the role of fathers in Latino families and the links between parenting behaviors and children’s social and cognitive development.
