Long-Term Impact of Child SSI Enrollment

Mark Duggan, Economics

MPRC associate Mark Duggan (Economics) has a series of projects that examine the impact of fast-growing federal disability insurance programs in a variety of health, economic and social outcomes.  In a current project with Jae Song from the Social Security Administration, Mark and Jae Song are estimating the long-term impact of SSI enrollment on children.  Utilizing administrative data, this project will link the outcomes of children's SSI applications with their earnings and mortality outcomes many years later as adults.  This project is still in its early stages as the data are being assembled.  The project will make an important contribution to the literature on this large and rapidly growing federal program.
