Data and Methods for Population Research
MPRC has become a major facilitator of data products for population research, although we do so in a way that is unique within the population community. Population research centers have long played a crucial role in the development of new and innovative data for analysis. MPRC focuses its efforts on two activities to enhance the availability of high quality data for research, and both activities revolve around the comparative advantage of the Center’s proximity to federal statistical agencies: 1) the delivery and enhancement of data collected by agencies that would otherwise be unavailable to the research community and 2) methodological studies designed to enhance the quality of data collected by these agencies.
Methodological Studies on Data Quality and Data Collection
MPRC faculty are dedicated to improving the quality of data and its documentation.
New Data Products
MPRC faculty associates have been involved in the construction and enhancement of four large data projects, including: 1) a web-based data system for the American Time Use Survey (ATUS); 2) the construction of Historical Census Research Files (HCR); and 3) the construction of two matched employer-employee datasets: the DEED and the LEHD. Details about these datasets is in this section.
