White House Citizen Forum invites Sacoby Wilson
In its workshop titled, “Open Science and Innovation: Of the people, by the people, for the people,” the White House gathered multiple stakeholders from academia, the public and private sectors, and citizens, to celebrate the impact of crowdsourcing and citizen science in furthering policy, scientific, and social outcomes.
Through an invitation to participate, Faculty Associate Sacoby Wilson was recognized for his efforts to advocate for environmental health and social justice issues using community based research methods. Commensurate with the goals of the forum, Dr. Wilson actively encourages and facilitates the cultivation of “citizen scientists” to help solve complex “real world problems.”
The forum, jointly convened by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the Domestic Policy Council on September 30, 2015, was complemented by the launch of a Federal Crowdsourcing and Citizen Toolkit. The toolkit is meant as a resource to help citizens carry out science projects methodically.
