Dr. Celeste Watkins-Hayes (Associate professor of Sociology & African American Studies at Northwestern University) will make a presentation to the Qualitative Research Interest Group entitiled "The New Welfare Bureaucrats: Entanglements of Race, Class, and Policy Reform." Data are drawn from her ethnographic analysis of the implementation of welfare reform on the front lines of service delivery and how the professional, racial, class and community identitiies of welfare caseworkers and supervisors shape the implementation of policy and other organizational dynamics.
